Hu Wei was born in Beijing (China) at 1983 and today he lives and works between Paris and Beijing. In 2011 he obtained diploma from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris and in 2013 he got another  one from Le Fresnoy, National Studio of Contemporary Arts.

one from Le Fresnoy, National Studio of Contemporary Arts. Hu Wei is the director of “Butter Lamp”, a short film which observes the lives of Tibetan nomads through the eyes of a photographer. Critically acclaimed, “Butter 
Lamp” won a multitude of awards in 2014 including the Grand Prix at IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival and Grand Jury Award at the AFI Film Festival. It was also screened at Cannes, Sundance and the New York Film Festival, as well as over 200 other festivals. The film was on the shortlist for the Academy Award for Best Live Action short film, along with 9 other films.
