Varna is a picturesque Black sea city in the Northeastern part of Bulgaria. The population is around 300 000 people by statistics from 2017. During the summer season the town is visited by thousands of tourists.

It is the largest city in the Bulgarian sea coast, known as Bulgaria's Black Sea capital.

Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is 442 km away, Burgas - 130 km and Istanbul - 462 km (km are considered by a road distance).

The easiest way to get to Varna is from Sofia or by direct flight.

By flight to Sofia and then to Varna

The airline company Bulgaria Air operates flights from Sofia to Varna. (You can purchase tickets online on Bulgaria Air's website www.air.bg or by travel agencies).

 

By bus from Sofia to Varna

You can travel from Sofia to Varna by bus. Buses depart from Sofia Central Bus Station at almost every 60/30 minutes. For more information, visit the webpage of Sofia Central Bus Station – www.centralnaavtogara.bg .

To get off close to IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival which is running in the Festival and Congress Centre - Varna, you have 3 options: 

1. City Bus from the Airport

At the Varna airport, there’s a bus stop, to the left of the ‘Arrivals’ exit. From there you can catch Bus No.409 (it’s the only one that goes to the airport) and get off in the centre of town, at the ‘SEVASTOPOL’  (in Bulgarian - “Севастопол”) bus stop (it’s the 11th stop from the airport). From there it’s a short (5-10min) walk down the alley towards the beach, until you reach the Festival and Congress Centre - Varna.

 

2. City Bus from Varna Central Bus Station

South of the Central Bus Station in Varna, across the boulevard, you’ll find a bus stop, called ‘AVTOGARA-2’ (eng. - ‘Bus Station-2’). From there you can catch Bus No.409 and get off in the centre of town, at the ‘SEVASTOPOL’  (in Bulgarian - “Севастопол”) bus stop (it’s the 4th stop from the Central Bus Station). From there it’s a short (5-10min) walk down the alley towards the beach, until you reach the Festival and Congress Centre - Varna.

 

3. Taxi

Multiple taxi cabs are usually parked in front of the airport’s main entrance/exit, as well as all around town.

‘SEVASTOPOL’ (“Севастопол”- in Bulgarian) is one of the main locations in the centre of Varna - they’ll immediately understand where you need to go.
