Boris Shusterman, the author of “Axis,” was born in 1953 in Kharkov, Ukraine. In the early 1970s, while being an engineering student of the local polytechnic university, Boris participated in the student amateur movie studio as a director and a cameraman. Studio members were selected out of dozens of candidates and the studio was highly regarded among similar student studios in the Soviet Union. Thanks to its professional-level equipment, that amateur studio had all capabilities for producing 35-mm movies and produced award-winning documentaries and short features. During his years in the movie studio, Boris Shusterman mastered all processes of the full-cycle production and for many years, dreamed of working independently. It took just 36 years and technological breakthroughs for his dreams to become reality. To be continued…
