Theo Delaney is among the UK’s leading commercials directors. He has made ads all over the world and has earned a reputation for versatility but is probably best known for his performance and humour led work. While working in his first job as a runner he moonlighted as a writer for ad agencies, design groups and a number of film and advertising magazines before becoming News Editor of Direction at the age of 22. He interviewed numerous filmmakers watching many of them work at close hand before being given his chance to direct at Tony Kaye Films. He won a Silver Lion at Cannes for his first commercial and followed it up with the Best New Director award. After spells at Spots and Tomboy Films he set up Hotspur and Argyle in 2002 with producer Danny Fleet. In addition to his prolific, award-winning commercials work he made the acclaimed short The Call and also works in documentary and new media. He combines his directing work with the creative directorship of Hotspur and Argyle’s sister company Contentment Worldwide, devising campaigns and strategies for a range of clients. His recent Coca Cola campaign, shot for agency Mother, scooped seven diplomas at the 2008 British Television Awards as well as the year’s Best Viral Award.
